In stock with us here at RFH Classics we have this 1950 Sunbeam S8 500cc Direct Drive Classic Motorbike that until recently formed part of a small collection of cars and motorbikes we purchased. The bike was only ever available in the Black you see here or Sage Green, in fact until recently we had a Sage Green model which was sold to a collector in Australia. The bike was in good regular use until around 3 years ago when it was taken off the road and dry stored. We have had the bike running but prior to sale will have it serviced and inspected. Please note this is exempt from Congestion & ULEZ charges
The Sunbeam S8 is a British motorcycles designed by Erling Poppe with styling loosely based on the BMW R75 designs that were acquired as war reparations by BSA, Built in Redditch, the unusual engine layout was similar to that of a car, the engine was a longitudinally mounted inline vertical OHC 500 cc twin based on an experimental 1932 BSA design with coil ignition and wet sump lubrication which, through a dry clutch, drove a shaft drive to the rear wheel. The inline engine made this technologically feasible - horizontally-opposed twin engines on BMW motorcycles had already used shaft drives following the system employed by Nimbus in 1918.
Due to the nature and age of our classic bikes we are unable to offer warranties on these, all motorcycles registered before 1978 do not need an MOT test. We do recommend an independent inspection of the bike to satisfy yourself as to its roadworthiness.
