With us at RFH Classics we have this very imposing 1978 (S) MGB Roadster 1.8 finished in Vermillion Red that has the addition of a very special Ivory Leather interior. We sold this car last year to one of our very loyal customers and it has just arrived back in part exchange against one of our other MGB Roadsters. As you can see in the pictures the car has had an extensive refurbishment to both the exterior and interior and is offered in fabulous condition. The interior is now fitted with upgraded Club seats that have been trimmed in Ivory Leather, the refit was undertaken by the owners of Mirror Trim for use as their marketing car as well as their personal classic which tells you no expense was spared to make it special. During the retrim the Leather was extended to all the interior panels and new carpets were fitted including a boot carpet that completes this stunning interior. During the refurb a Wooden steering wheel and matching gear knob were fitted and those of you with a keen eye will notice that with the fitting the gear knob came the issue of where to relocate the Overdrive switch, this was achieved by rewiring the switch so it sits were they were originally located up on the dash, a neat solution.
There is an extensive history file in the office that accompanies the car, contained in there is information regarding one of the cars early owners. It shows that in 1985 the car was purchased by the son of the British media mogul Lew Grade as a present for his father and was subsequently fitted with his personalised plate, LG 1. He purchased the car with 38,530 miles on the clock and subsequently went on to own it for the next 4 years but did little to no miles in the car. The old MOT tests we have in the file indicate the mileage was 41,330 in 1991 and subsequent tests indicate the mileage only rose to 74,562 by the year 2000. With this in mind, we would be inclined to think the mileage is correct.
The car was Ziebarted from new and we are advised that it still retains all the original panels even with an extensive refurbishment being undertaken around 2009. In the paperwork there are details of the car having been the subject of a Hodson Engineering conversion to unleaded fuel conversion along with a rebuilt to include a fast road cam to improve performance. Fast forward to today and the whole car presents really well with it having polished edge Minilite wheels fitted with matching tyres that help make it just a little bit individual.
