FORD ZODIAC

Just arrived with us here at RFH Classics we have this 1965 (C) Ford Zodiac MKIII Auto Saloon finished in Goodwood Green with Taupe Trim. Unusually the car has only had 3 owners and has clearly been the subject of an extensive previous restoration work so it is offered in what we would consider to be better cosmetic and structural condition than many of the remaining Zodiac MKIIIs we have seen. Although there is little accompanying paperwork the car presents well and clearly has been well looked after. Due to age of the car the recorded mileage of 45,097 cannot be warranted however the MOT history indicates the car has done less than 200 miles over the last 5 years. The present speedo reading is given some credence by the condition of the interior which appears to be highly original or the subject of an exceptional older retrim. The engine bay is clean and the car starts well from cold with the assistance of a little choke.

When it was introduced in 1962, the MKIII version of deservedly popular Ford Zodiac boasted some might say a bold new transatlantic-inspired styling courtesy of designer Canadian Roy Brown. The shape shared the same basic monocoque bodyshell design seen on the Zephyr 6 however differentiated with longer rear doors, narrower C-pillars and a bespoke grille sporting four headlamps. Inside, the car was considered to have more luxurious interior fittings and benefitted from very comfortable bench seats with the front having a slide adjust. Power for the car came from the 2553cc straight-six OHV engine that in its day produced 109bhp giving this five / six-seater an impressive 100mph top speed. The Zodiac would have been a strong seller when new however surviving examples that are as nice as this, are a rare sight on the roads nowadays.

Although this car is exempt from needing an MOT it currently has a test until July 23. Included within the screen price we supply the car with a new MOT and 3 months warranty. The Zodiac is eligible for Historic Tax which makes it exempt from the ULEZ charge which when coupled with the low cost to insure these cars, makes it a very cost effective classic to own.
